Personal Item Packing List for a Week in Europe (Winter)

Less is more, right? When I nabbed my $69 ticket to London from LAX on WOW Air, I decided I wouldn’t be adding on any other fees. I wanted to actually fly to Europe for under $70. My flight doesn’t include entertainment, food, or any luggage except an underseat bag. The idea is, you can bring your purse or laptop bag, but I’m going to show you how I packed for a week in Europe in my personal item underseat bag. Luckily, we (my friend Alesha and I) are visiting London and Bruges in the winter, which means we’ll be in coats most of the time and won’t have to worry about wearing the same thing a few times throughout the week.

We are flying Norwegian on the way back, so we’ll get to bring a carry on bag back to Los Angeles. So, I’ve packed a compactable carry on size duffel bag to load up with Christmas gifts from the markets!

On WOW Air, your Personal Item can have maximum dimensions of 17″x13″x10″.

I scoured Craigslist and found this rolling beauty that fit the size. Much easier to pack than a backpack and I look less like a backpacker. Perfect!

I’m already a pretty light packer, but this was a challenge. It took a few minutes of figuring out what items from my original list I can keep and what I have to leave behind. I had to fit all of my clothes in this medium/small sized packing cube.

Mission accomplished! I had to get rid of a few things, and in the end, I can carry one pair of jeans, one pair of leggings, two sweaters, two long sleeve shirts and shorts sleeves + socks & underwear. It won’t be too terribly cold in London and Bruges this time of year – probably in the mid 40’s.

In order to take my big warm Christmas sweater, I’ll have to wear it on the plane. No big deal, except it’s going to be in the mid 80’s and sunny outside when we leave. That’s Los Angeles in November!

This trip will definitely be an exercise in minimalism. But, if I can learn to pack like this, I can start to buy the really cheap tickets from WOW Air when they go on sale and fly off to Europe for a weekend with just a personal item. How great is that?
